Sorry for the lack of updates. I’ve been busy selling electronics, spreading air pollution, and trying to keep my population educated to prevent a nuclear meltdown in SimCity. It can be a fun game, but it’s also rife with a lot of issues. The parts that work are fun from thousands of feet up — growing a city, having it produce stuff, and watching things come together. The pieces on the ground, though, leave something to be desired — the smaller city plots, the dumb traffic, and the mandatory online requirement.
I played a marathon session of SimCity 4 to warm up on before hitting SimCity and can see where some of the anger comes from. The new game also has some neat changes that alleviate some of the more complicated “deep sim” aspects — likely to make it easier for newcomers to dive right in — which aren’t all bad. Still, I miss things like city ordinances, or even laying down subway tunnels and water lines. And having firetrucks that actually get to where they are supposed to. It’s a really strange, mixed bag.
